For my first year flower farming, I have decided to start my flowers from seed, instead of buying starters. I am using a nice warm room in my house to keep all of my baby flowers happy until it is time to plant them outside. I have started almost 20 different varieties of flowers already, and I am looking forward to adding to my diversity of flowers, as we get closer to our last frost date. Being in northern Vermont, the grow season for annuals is not as long as I wish it could be!

I am glad to be able to grow flowers that I cannot normally purchase or source in my local area. In the future, I hope to grow a wide variety of flowers to increase the options for our local flower market.

I have also been spending a lot of time researching some of the best methods to create healthy soil. With my background in microbiology, a large reason why I wanted to start farming was because I am curious about soil microorganisms. I believe the best flowers will grow from the healthiest and most nutritious soil I can provide, and the soil microorganisms play a large role in that process. I highly recommend listening to the podcast No Till Flowers if you have any interest in learning more about growing cut flowers or flower farming. It has been extremely helpful for giving me tips on how to best start a new flower farm.
