Growing and reflecting

As I am well into my second year growing flowers, I am blown away with how much I have learned in just one year. Last year everything was so new, and I made a lot of mistakes. This year, I actually know what my flowers look like, and where they are planted in my garden (most of them at least). I tried some new techniques like soil blocking, no till garden beds, succession planting. For the most part, those things have gone well. Now that I have a better grasp at identifying and growing flowers, I am starting to notice new problems. I now understand why people don’t want groundhogs, slugs, or Japanese beetles around. It seems like the pests have found me, and I am going to have to learn to live with them somehow. I have lost of lot of the seedlings I started. I think a big reason behind it, was the soil quality of my seed starting mix. I am going to play around it that more for next years seed starting.
I have had a few flowers start to bloom. I am excited for them to kick it into high gear in the next couple of weeks. Once the flowers are in high gear, I am hoping to have the flower stand stocked every weekend. I am just so excited to be having more success this season. It may not be perfect, but I am having fun.
